In a recent announcement via a video, Jan M. Jahnke, Lead for Global Esports Products at Level Infinite, shared exciting news about Honor of Kings, the mobile MOBA game developed by the Chinese company Tencent. Widely popular in its home region, Honor of Kings boasts prestigious tournaments like the King Pro League and the Honor of Kings International Championship. Notably, the International Championship secured the esports prize pool in 2023, totaling $10 million (~£7.8 million). For Western audiences, the game is recognized as Arena of Valor, the international adaptation of Honor of Kings.
Tencent's focus for 2024 involves expanding Honor of Kings' global footprint. Level Infiniterevealed earlier this month that the game will have a global release throughout the year, starting with North Africa, Eastern Europe, South Asia, and the Middle East.
To bolster its global aspirations, the creators announced the Honor of Kings Invitational Series, featuring two seasons in 2024, each culminating in LAN finals. The Season 1 finals are scheduled to take place in Istanbul, Turkey. Additionally, the company plans to establish localized leagues in the mentioned markets, mirroring the Pro League recently introduced in Brazil.
In the interim between seasons, Honor of Kings teams will engage in the Midseason Invitational tournament, boasting a $1 million prize pool. Towards the end of the year, the Invitational Championship is slated to occur, although specific details about the tournament remain undisclosed.
The integration of these developments with existing Arena of Valor tournaments and whether the creators intend to consolidate both games into Honor of Kings in 2024 remain unclear.
