WhatsApp Unveils Enhanced Features for Channels, Including Voice Notes, Polls, Sharing to Status, and Multiple Admins
Mark Zuckerberg announced on Wednesday that WhatsApp's one-way broadcasting tool, Channels, is receiving a significant update with the introduction of voice notes, multiple admins, sharing to status, and polls. These enhancements are designed to provide users with more interactive and engaging ways to connect with WhatsApp Channels.
The updates, which are gradually rolling out on Android, iOS, and the web worldwide, include the following key features:
Voice Updates: Channel admins can now send voice notes to their followers, capitalizing on the popularity of voice communication on the platform. WhatsApp, which already witnesses the exchange of 7 billion voice notes daily, aims to make this feature a prominent communication format for Channels.
polls: To boost engagement, Channels now have the ability to create polls within the platform. Admins can directly tap into audience opinions and preferences, transforming passive viewers into active participants. Mark Zuckerberg demonstrated this feature by creating a poll about the 'best game of all time' in his announcement.
Share to Status: Bridging the gap between Channels and personal connections, this feature allows users to share updates from their favorite Channels to their WhatsApp Status. This facilitates word-of-mouth recommendations and helps users stay informed on topics they care about.
Multiple Admins: WhatsApp Channels is introducing the Multiple Admins feature, allowing up to 16 admins to manage group interactions. This enhancement streamlines communication flow within Channels, ensuring the efficient dissemination of relevant information.
WhatsApp also revealed that Channels has reached 500 million monthly active users, with profiles of notable figures such as Katrina Kaif and Vijay Deverakonda, along with brands like Mumbai Indians, Mercedes F1, and Netflix. Channels enables users to receive important updates from individuals and organizations privately, without mingling them with personal chats, similar to Instagram's broadcast feature.
